It’s not uncommon for pets to turn their nose up at dry food. However, it could be a sign of a bigger problem. In most cases, pets are shy about eating dry food, because their mouth hurts. This pain keeps them from wanting to crunch their dry food. Sometimes pets are more responsive to canned food because it is easier to swallow without much work. Unfortunately, mouth pain often means your pet’s teeth or gums are infected. Much like dental infections in humans, dental infections in pets can lead to bigger issues – it can even lead to internal organ damage when bacteria travels from the mouth to the bloodstream.

If your pet is shy about eating food, please give us a call at 951-676-4690. We can help determine that pet’s problem and resolve their painful mouth and dental issue.
